To celebrate the International Women’s Day and Women in Construction Week 2025 we have visited our member company Eastage Engineering to find out their initiative to promote female workforce.
Eastgate Engineering is proud to stand behind the Vicky Phelan Campaign & Portrait Tour, a powerful “Campaign of Awareness and Change” established by Managing Director David Brennan. This initiative, following the Cervical Check Scandal uncovered by Vicky Phelan in 2018, is dedicated to raising awareness, advocating for change, and supporting those affected by cervical cancer.
Vicky Phelan’s courageous efforts revealed that hundreds of women with cervical cancer were not informed that their negative smear tests had been revised, potentially preventing their cancers. By speaking out, Vicky gave a voice to silent sufferers and became a leading women’s rights advocate, co-founding the 221+ support groups for those impacted by the CervicalCheck scandal.
“It is my duty and honour to carry Vicky’s baton, to tell her story, and continue her campaign for Cancer Awareness, normalising the discussion around gynecological health and empowering women to demand healthcare treatment,” said David Brennan.
As a company that values inclusivity, empowerment and equality, Eastgate Engineering recognises the importance of supporting and elevating women in all walks of life, whether in the workplace, at home or in communities. International Women’s Week serves as a time to reflect on the progress made in creating a more inclusive industry while acknowledging the long road ahead.
Marketing specialist Abbie King and Instrumentation Apprentice Aimee Arnell both shared their positive experiences as females in the engineering construction industry, highlighting the benefits and opportunities available to women.
At Eastgate, the commitment to empowering women and making a positive change is unwavering. “We are going to continue working together to help empower our women and make a change in any way we can because cancer is everybody’s business,” added Brennan.
Eastgate Engineering remains dedicated to inclusivity, raising awareness about cancer, and advocating for better healthcare treatment, honouring the legacy of Vicky Phelan and supporting those impacted by cancer.
