Customer Intimacy – Sellafield Ltd, West Cumbria

ECIA Managing Director John Simpson met with the representatives from Sellafield Ltd, West Cumbria, and many contractors and ECIA members operating on site.  Sellafield is Europe’s largest multi-function nuclear site with the most diverse range of nuclear facilities in the world on a single site comprising more than 1,000 buildings. As of August 2022, it has been primarily processing and safely storing nuclear waste but formerly its activities included nuclear power generation from 1956 to 2003, and nuclear fuel reprocessing from 1952 to 2022.

This site has been the Category 2 Repair and Maintenance site since 2006 widely adopting the NAECI agreement. John’s purpose for visiting West Cumbria was to seek feedback on the NAECI as well as to continue the journey of deepening the relationship between the ECIA, its members and their site clients.

John explains: “Following my site visits, I am getting a clearer understanding of the NAECI position within the industry and the issues the ECIA members and their clients are facing. My aim is to continue this journey and identify the opportunities the ECIA can provide to the engineering construction industry and its members.”
